School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES)

Confident next steps after school

Finishing school is a big change.

It can feel exciting, confusing, or both.

McCall’s School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) program helps you build confidence, independence, and real-life skills for what comes next.

We work with you to create a plan that fits your interests, strengths, and goals.

You choose what you want to work on, and you move at your own pace with support along the way.

Whether you’re exploring work, study, volunteering or building everyday life skills, SLES gives you practical support at your own pace.

How SLES works

SLES is flexible because everyone is different.

When you get in touch, we take time to understand what you want to work towards.

Together, we build a SLES pathway that feels achievable and supportive.

Your support is shaped around your goals and may include:

  • Group-based SLES sessions
  • Individual support, where appropriate
  • Flexible attendance options (such as choosing how long you wish to attend)
  • The ability to adjust goals as confidence and skills grow

There is no fixed timeline. You decide what progress looks like for you. Support is reviewed regularly and can change over time as participants build independence.

SLES is funded through NDIS School Leaver Employment Supports. In some cases, NDIS core supports may also be used, depending on individual plans and goals.

Skills you’ll build

You’ll work on practical skills for everyday life and work, including:

  • Time management and personal organisation
  • Travel training and using public transport
  • Money handling and basic budgeting
  • Communication and social skills
  • Personal hygiene and presentation
  • Workplace access and safety
  • Resume writing and interview practice
  • Understanding what employers expect
  • Learning your workplace rights

What SLES looks like in practice

SLES is hands-on and practical. Activities may include:

  • Baking and food preparations sessions
  • Gardening and structured work tasks
  • Flyer distribution and community activities
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Workplace visits and site tours
  • Supported workplace placements

These activities help you build confidence, routine and real-world experience in supportive settings.
